Born in Wyoming, I moved with my family to Arkansas when I was nine years old.  I graduated from Cave City High School in 1985, and from Lyon College in 1989, with a BA in education.  I had always known I wanted to teach, but I hadn't known that I wanted to teach middle schoolers.  I started teaching kindergarten and moved to a combined third and fourth grade classroom at Poughkeepsie Elementary.  When my husband Jerry accepted a promotion with Pepsi Cola, we moved from Cave City to this area in 1993.  Hoxie High School hired me as a junior high English teacher in 2000. It was then I discovered  eighth graders are amazingly special, and I have enjoyed teaching them!

When I'm not at school, my family keeps me busy.  Jerry and I have four children, Sarah, Katie, Garrett, and Abigail. We have a son-in-law, Scott, and two grandchildren, Jayden and Rory.

This past year I decided to earn my master's degree in Reading.  I am halfway through the program.  I have learned quite a bit and have been challenged to step out of my comfort zone just a bit.  I look forward to completing my degree this summer.

Reading and writing have always been my passion.  Dean Koontz and J.R.R. Tolkien are a couple of my favorite authors.  Christopher Paolini and Stephanie Meyers are at the top of my list, as well. This summer I read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, a beautifully written histrorical fiction with WWII as the backdrop for the stroy.
