My name is Janet Atkinson. I am a Hoxie graduate of the class of 1984. I attended and graduated for Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education. I am married and have two children. My husband manages a farm in Lawrence and Jackson Counties. Katelyn, my daughter, lives and works in Jonesboro, AR. My son, Jake, attends the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. He is also an officer in the US Army. My family attends the Hoxie church of Christ. I love all things outdoors and I am a sports enthusiast.
I have also studied and been involved in martial arts for over 40 years. I received my black belt when I was 18 years old. I am presently a 9th degree black belt and a senior instructor with Allied Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Academy in Walnut Ridge, AR. We teach traditional Tang Soo Do karate, self-defense, and other martial arts training.
I have been teaching at Hoxie Public Schools for nearly 27 1/2 years. I have taught 2nd and 3rd grade in years prior. I am presently teaching 6th grade science and grammar. I went into teaching because I felt like I could make a difference in the education of kids. I enjoy being around my students. Watching them grow and mature into young citizens is a source of great pride.
I attended Hoxie School during my elmentary and high school years. You might say that I have been at Hoxie School for my entire life, so I take great pride in being a "Mustang".
